How it all came to be

One day on the internet i stumbled upon a curiously sounding name: Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji. I then investigated, and thus learned about a reclusive British composer who lived in the 20c. The context hinted that there might be some merit to the music, so i gave it a try, those were the first couple of minutes from Fiero, ardito movement of Opus Archimagicum, performed by Yi-Chung Huang.

Haskell, the language of gods

Sometimes ideas kinda flutter in surrounding space and enter your brain from several different angles. Of course it comes from Baader–Meinhof, the first time you simply pay enough attention to have the idea planted in your mind, then when you hear about it next time the chances you’ll go look it up increase, and then personalised recommendations make it certain the idea will always be around until you fall for it.

I always say that languages have their own personalities and free will. They come and go as they please. Four years ago I had a sudden desire to learn Russian Sign Language. I didn’t succeed, mostly because I didn’t have any Deaf friends at the time, but still it was a worthy experience. I learned a whole other side of languages I could never imagine when i only knew voice languages.

If you ever want to compliment a woman’s appearance in Chinese, you have two safest options: cannibalistic 秀色可餐 (literally ‘beautiful to the point of edibility’) and ecocidally apocalyptic 沈魚落雁・閉月羞花 (literally ‘sinks fish, drops geese, shuts the moon, disgraces flowers’).

And as everyone knows, the ecocidally apocalyptic choice is also the most classic one, as it has been distributed between the Four Great Beauties of China·中國四大美人 in the following expression:

(Xi Shi sinks fish, [Wang] Zhaojun drops geese, Diao Chan shuts the moon, [Yang] Guifei disgraces flowers.)

Qazaq language has a particular trait of having been written with more than one script throughout its history.

However, this is not a research in history of Qazaq writing systems but rather a conjecture comparing various scripts and trying to assess how well each of them could reveal the features of Qazaq grammar and the spirit of Qazaq culture.

Let’s play the game: if there was a choice, which of the scripts would be the best script for writing Qazaq?
